Hoping for some heat
Is this a place to post some hopes and dreams? Because I am going to. I hereby declare that I hope we will have real, working heat in Chicago. I mean, you have to there, right? It's cold. Here, these old buildings are simply not built for windy, chilly days. Our windows are drafty and the sunroom, which conveniently branches off both our bedroom and the kids', has no insulation. When we turn on the heat, it immediately hits 100 in the boys' room and is not felt at all in ours. Why that is I cannot tell you.
As anyone who has visited or stayed with us knows, it gets darned cold in here. This hit home last month when visitors from two different households in the Twin Cities remarked on how cold they were in our home. Ummm, yeah. It may not ever get that cold outside, but the thing is, it's as cold in as it is out.
Take today for example. It's 52 degrees out right now, beautifully sunny, and quite windy. Which means that I am inside, wearing a wool fisherman's sweater and two pairs of socks in addition to the rest of my clothes (I felt I had to add that part, as that sentence read sort of funny without it). At night, I've been wearing long johns, a fleece shirt over my shirt, cotton socks and another pair of fleece socks. We have our comforter and two blankets on. Oh, and we warm up the room with a space heater before going to bed.
So sometimes I have to laugh when people suggest that it'll be really hard to get used to the cold in Chicago. As long as we can be toasty warm inside, I'll be fine.
