Temperate Clime

Jeepers, we finally have a shovel, car scraper, waterproof gloves and enough long underwear to sink a ship. We were acclimating to temperatures in the teens. Bay Area folks, you would never believe that 30 degrees could feel so balmy (no hat! no gloves!). In San Francisco all the elderly Asian ladies in the Sunset are bundled up in their down coats, hats, and mittens on a day like today, and here we are reveling in our 50-degree whether like it's spring. "Whaddya mean, Scooter's is closed for the winter?! Winter was here! Just last week! It's over!"

Right?

Scooters is closed for the winter? Darn! Glad we didn't make the impromptu stop last weekend!

Yeah, it's a shame. They'll open March 2nd. We're trying not to count the days! Next year we'll have to stock up on pints for the freezer to get us through the winter. We'll have you guys over in January '08 and dream of ice cream cones and swimming pools.

Okay, time for a vote! Does everyone - and NOT JUST MY SISTER-IN-LAW!! - think we're crazy for getting snowshoes for Christmas??!! I need to know! ;-)

We've had snowshoes for 6 years, but there have only been two winters since then--including the one we bought them--that we've had enough snow on the ground at any one time in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area to actually use them. Ridiculous!
